Calypso - Friends of Homeless Animals (provided photo)

Calypso

Mastiff, female, 2 years 7 months old

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

Hi folks, Calypso here!  I'm a gorgeous mastiff - mellow, gentle, laid back - these are some of the words the volunteers use to describe me. Like many of my breed, I am really a gentle giant.  When you are ready to take me for a walk, I will stand so quietly while you put my harness on.  And in the play yard I like to check the perimeter and then come back and visit with my friends. I did live in a home with older children, so I think I would adjust well to a new place.  Won't you come and visit with me soon?  I would really like a chance to get to know you and maybe... who knows, I think we might just hit it off!

Elmer - Friends of Homeless Animals (provided photo)

Elmer

Domestic Short Hair cat, male

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

This Elmer hopes to adhere to your heart…and your side as a member of your household and beloved furry family member.  My name, Elmer, has a story behind it, and, yes, it is connected to that famous white adhesive you used in elementary school. You see, on one fall day, a skinny and frightened cat appeared on the porch of a woman who just happens to be an animal rescuer. That tired cat appeared to have dried blood all across his face, and he seemed to have a disability – his top lip was curled up to his face. A trip to the vet proved that what had really happened – that cat’s face was covered with dried glue, which was hindering him from being able to eat. That cat was me. Gently they cleaned me up and helped me to get better. It took me just a few weeks to heal (during which time I was also neutered). With my hearty appetite, I put on weight. Now you’d never know that I had had that really tough time. When you come out to FOHA to meet me, you’ll just find me relaxing on a kitty bed or condo. There, you can sit by me and give me pets….and more pets….and more pets. I truly know how to relax. You could learn a thing or two from my chilled out ways. I’m happy to share my space with other cats and would be fine in a multi-cat home. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to keep you company and join your family, look no further. I’ll cling to your side and your heart.

Hi, my name is Max, and I am ready to go home and cuddle on the couch. I love being with people, taking long walks, and playing with toys and other dogs. I am a little timid and will need you to go slow and easy when we first meet. Once I get to know you, then I am ready to be best buds. If you are looking for a best friend that is happy to be with you no matter what and will listen endlessly to you, then I am your guy!

Dale the Chi - Homeless Animals Rescue Team (photo credit)

Dale the Chi

Chihuahua, male, 5 years old

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) foster (photo credit)

Dale is kind of a couch potato in the house. He enjoys being held and melts in your arms and he frequently rolls over for a belly rub. He is calm and relaxed at home and rarely barks. Once outdoors he is eager to take in all the sights and smells and he also loves to lie in the grass. While he would love someone to be home with him all the time, he does okay on his own during the workday.

Misty - Homeless Animals Rescue Team (photo credit)

Misty

Domestic Short hair Cat, female, 7 years old (est.)

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) foster (photo credit)

Misty lost her home when her owner fell ill and could no longer care for her. Misty is shy at first, but once she trusts you, she will be your best friend. Misty is a quiet kitty who just likes to be near the people she trusts. She chirps a "hello" when her foster mom strikes up a conversation, follows her around the house, curls at her feet while she works, or simply snuggles in bed to watch tv. She adores catnip toys and will roll around on the floor making sure to soak up all the catnip fun when she finds one. She purrs the moment you start petting or brushing her and gives loving head boops after sniffing your hair.

Porkchop - Friends of Homeless Animals (provided photo)

PorkChop

Domestic Medium hair Cat, male

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

PorkChop's the name, and playing's my game.  Get it?  Playing?  Game?  I'm the big brother of three male kittens.  PeeWee is my little brother (the tiniest of our litter).  My other brother is Pepper.  I'm definitely the big brother, thought.  But don't let my size fool you into thinking I'm some big, tough, independent guy.  No, I'm just as affectionate as my brothers.  Truth be told, we sort of try to compete for our foster mommy's attention.  We tend to keep her pretty busy, since all three of us want to be held and cuddled at the same time.  Those are some full arms, with three kittens to love on!  When not cuddling, you can find me playing with my favorite toys: the red dot and "Da Bird."

Goldie - Friends of Homeless Animals (photo credit)

Goldie

Yellow Lab / Pitbull mix, female, 10 years 8 months old (est.)

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

My name is Goldie; can you guess why?  Could it be because of my golden coat?  I'm an extra-special girl because I was rescued from Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.  It is amazing that I made it through that experience, and I am very grateful to FOHA for making sure that I have a safe place to stay until I find my forever home.  I am a very playful and energetic girl who is also really smart.  I already know commands like "sit," "stay," and "heel"!  I am housetrained and love to be brushed.  I would thrive in a quiet home with a single person or a couple without a lot of comings and goings of other people.  I am secretly hoping for a fenced-in yard where I can run, play, and work on getting my girlish figure back.  Hey, the volunteers bring great snacks.
If I had to come up with a wish list for the perfect mom or dad for me, I would choose a loving, confident, quiet person who would take things slowly with me.  Something happened in my past that I won't tell anyone about, and it makes me wary of people.  I need time, patience, and love to learn to trust again.

Todd

American Foxhound, Male, 2 years old (est.)

Loudoun County Animal Services foster (photo credit w/ petharbor.com)

Hi, I'm Todd!  I am a working dog and don't know much about being inside or watching TV.  I used to spend my days running through the woods of Loudoun County chasing foxes with my other hound dog friends.  But I am ready and willing to learn about all of the delights of family life.  It's a little surprising, but I am startled by loud noises and quick movements.  Please come take me home and teach me all of the wonderful things I have been missing!

Maui - Homeless Animals Rescue Team (photo credit)

Maui

Male, 9 years old

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) foster (photo credit)

Maui is a previous HART foster whose current owner must now move to Australia, so Maui will be returning to the rescue group.  As a diabetic, he needs insulin injections twice a day, as well as regular veterinary care and monitoring.  Maui would certainly love a new furever home, but even a willing and able foster would be wonderful!

If you are interested in fostering this little sweetheart while he awaits permanent adoption, please contact HART.  You should also check out their Foster Program information and the Cat Foster Application.

And of course, as always, we encourage you to check out info about the HART Adoption Process.

Toya - Homeless Animals Rescue Team (photo credit)

Toya

Pointer/Hound/Lab mix, female, 1 year old

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) foster (photo credit)

Toya is a big cuddle-bug who loves to give kisses!  This sweet and affectionate girl is also quite a beauty.  Toya is very clever and eager to please, which makes training fun.  She is learning basic commands and is doing very well at come, sit, and many others.  She walks very nicely on a leash, so a fenced yard is not a necessity as long as she is walked regularly, but she would love to have a fenced yard to play in with you (she might even teach you some new games).  Toya has lovely house manners.  She doesn't like to be crated, but her foster mom has been able to leave her out for 6 hours or more, and she has been fine.  She doesn't chew things except her own toys, she is house trained, and she doesn't beg or steal food.  It takes Toya a little bit of time to feel comfortable in new situations, like getting a new home, so her new family will need to be a little patient with her, but she will blossom into a loving, affectionate, and well-mannered companion.  Come and meet this sweet brainy beauty!

Tiger - Friends of Homeless Animals (provided photo)

Tiger

Domestic Shorthair Cat, male

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

My name is Tiger.  I'm a sweet and special boy who has loved and lost twice.  I cam to FOHA initially when I lost my human mom to cancer.  I had a hard time adjusting to life without my mom, with whom I'd spent 6 years.  I was blessed to be adopted again by a loving adopter who, unfortunately, also became terminally ill.  I'm ready to find a loving permanent home again and settle in for a long life with a loving family.  My FOHA friends say I'm an old soul in a young cat's body.  I have extra toes on my front paws, so it looks like I'm ready for the cold weather with my mittens.  I also have white under my chin and bright yellow eyes.  I'm a quiet boy, and I love to sit on my kitty bed next to you on the couch.  If you pet me while we're watching TV (Animal Planet, perhaps?), I'll even start to drool.  I am so happy when you enter the room, I will likely chirp hello...I also lie a nice, firm brushing.  Ready for love?  I know I sure am!  I'm Tiger.  My friends call me Mr. T.  I just hope you'll call me yours.

Mr. Beefy

Olde English Bulldog, male, 5 years 3 months old

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

I do seem to get a lot of attention when I am out and about - perhaps my fabulous good looks??  And the volunteers take me to a lot of events because I am so calm and good with people and other dogs.  I lived with a family for several years, so I know the rules of a home, and I'm sure I could adapt quickly to yours.  Do you have a place in your heart and home?  A little love and attention is all I need...Please come and meet me soon!

Rocky - Loudoun County Animal Services (photo credit w/ petharbor.com)

Rocky

Plott Hound mix, neutered male, 6 years old (est.)

Loudoun County Animal Services foster (photo credit w/ petharbor.com)

Rocky has the cutest floppy ears that blow in the breeze as he does his favorite activity: walk and sniff, and walk and sniff, and walk...well, you get the idea.
He gets very excited about playing with toys, especially stuffed toys with squeakers inside!  His other favorite thing is when he gets to meet new people.  His new family will want to teach him not to jump despite this being the Best. Thing. Ever.  They will have to gently explain that new people will be much happier to meet him in return if he keeps all four paws on the ground.
At the end of a day filled with all the excitement of walks, squeaky toys, and meeting new people, Rocky really likes to settle in and lie down on his bed with a snack.  If you think you and Rocky have a lot in common, he just might be the right friend for you!

Chime

Beagle mix, Female, 2 years old (est.)

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) foster (photo credit)

Chime is a little Beagle who reminds you of all the great qualities Beagles possess, but she doesn't seem to bay nor show any pushiness.  Chime would be happy to be with her people, whether that's hangin' out or going for walks (or runs).  She responds wonderfully to petting and likes to cuddle, but she is not demanding and will just sit by your side.  Chime will be a great family dog who adores children as well as adults.  In other words, Chime is Beagle Perfection!

Darla

Domestic Mediumhair Cat, Female

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

I'm a sweet, dainty little girl.  My 7 kittens were all adopted [during the last holiday season], but somehow my forever family has not found me yet.  Now that my babies are gone, I have the freedom to play like a kitten myself, pouncing on toys and catching "daBird"!  My foster mommy has triend to get me to get up on her bed, but apparently in my past life I wasn't allowed on furniture.  However, I love cat trees and know it is ok to lounge in the cat tree.  I like to rub against ankles to be pet and brushed.  Oh, and I like treats!  I don't mind other cats, but I would be perfectly happy as an only cat.

Pepper - Friends of Homeless Animals

Pepper

Silky Terrier mix, Male, 3 years 1 month old

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) foster (provided photo)

Oh, my gosh!  I'm so glad to meet you.  And I know you'll be very glad to meet me as well.  First of all, I'm  just a stunning little looker with the softest gray coat.  My paperwork says that I am a Yorkie, but the website says I'm a Silky -- so let's just say I'm a very soft terrier...

Now, I hate to brag, but someone is going to get a real winner when they get me -- it's going to be like winning the lottery.  Why do I say this?  Well, I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and good on the leash.  I'm only three years old and good with other dogs.  I also know a few tricks, as well!

So if you're looking for a great lap dog with lots of love to share, please come look for me!

Love,
Pepper

Casper - Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART)

Casper

Italian Greyhound mix, Male, 9 years old (est.)

Homeless Animals Rescue Team foster (photo credit)

Casper is a very smart and beautiful dog who will be great for an adult-only home.  He has lots of energy, and he loves to run, so he will do best with a runner or a good-sized yard.  His eyes are a lovely blue, his fur is soft, and he loves to cuddle as he is very affectionate.  He is house-trained and responds very well to training.  Casper doesn't do well meeting dogs at our adoption events, but he lived with another dog for many years and is doing well in foster care with three other dogs.  He rides well in the car and does not bother things in the house.  He is a bit headstrong and wants to follow a confident leader.  Out in the yard he comes when called and he wants to please. Casper is a special boy!

Lucy's previous owner had too many animals, and Lucy didn't receive the attention she needed.  However, she is a gentle, loving dog who enjoys quiet moments with people.  She will need someone to show her that the world isn't so scary and there is lots of fun to be had.  A quiet home with patient owners would be ideal for Lucy so she can blossom into the dog she is meant to be.

Karina is a beautiful velveteen-like Rex rabbit.  She has made all of the staff and volunteers here at the shelter fall absolutely in love with her.  She is very gentle and kind.  In her previous home, she lived with children and a dog.  Her previous owner said Karina got along with everyone but hates going outside.  Karina is very social and is looking for a new family to join.
