         Susan Kirk, DVM

Dr. Susan Kirk (formerly Dr. Whitford) was raised in Fairfax, Virginia where she began her veterinary career as a veterinary  assistant and receptionist.  She earned a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech and graduated magna cum laude prior to attending veterinary school in 2004.  After graduating from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Susan joined the Stream Valley team in June of 2008.  In just a year, Dr. Kirk sharpened her clinical and surgical skills under the mentorship of Dr. Corey and rose to the task of ?holding down the fort? so Dr. Corey could have some long-awaited time off.  Her professional interests include ophthalmology, surgery, shelter medicine, and animal rescue.  When she isn?t working, Dr. Kirk likes to spend time with her husband Ken, (a teacher and a writer), whom she married in October 2008, and their fuzzy flock, which includes two mutt-dogs (Annabelle and Pablo) and four tabby cats (Stella, Diana, Paloma, and Seattle).   She also loves hiking, boxing, running, baking, and cooking.  Dr. Kirk is a true-blue Hokie (bleeding maroon and orange, of course).  Although she misses Blacksburg dearly, she is grateful to have returned home to begin her career.
