Meet Our Trainer

Deanna Scott

Deanna got her first Border Collie in 1993 and her second in 1995. The second Border won “Wackiest Pet Trick” at Pet Smart and was on PAX TV! She currently has two new Border Collies and one cat. She has been a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), Dulles Gateway Obedience Training Club (DGOTC), and the United States Border Collie Association (USBCA).  She worked for 2 years at Pender Veterinary, while in college. She started as Kennel Assistant, which included caring for the animals and holding animals for the Vet. Then, moved up to Vet Assistant, which included assisting and developing X-rays, caring for intensive care animals, and assisting with any of the Vet's needs.

Deanna Scott is committed to using positive reinforcement training techniques. She started as a child, training her beagle mix to do all sorts of tricks for food. This was before treat training was a concept. She decided to go to a positive trainer with her first Border Collie. She and her first Border earned a Companion Dog (CD) title, before the dog was 15 months old. She ended up assisting the trainer and then began teaching classes on her own. She has been teaching classes for more than 20 years. She goes into the home for Puppy Jump-Start and Basic Behavior consultations. She has taught Puppy, Basic, Advanced Basic, Sub-Novice, Novice, Fun and Tricks, and Canine Good Citizen classes. She follows the teachings of Dr. Ian Dunbar and other positive reinforcement trainers. She stresses the importance of socializing your dog to other dogs, children, and adults. She teaches you how to train your dog to be a good house companion.
